In playoff soccer action yesterday the Lady Patriots pulled out a victory, the first in the program’s history.
With it tied 0-0 more than halfway through the game, Liberty was looking for a spark versus Las Vegas. That came in the form of a goal by Ari Gonzalez (9) with the assist by Sunshine Soriano (10) to put them up 1-0.
That would be the final score with Rebecca Rodriguez (11) posting the shutout with six saves. Next up for the Lady Patriots is Green Valley.
Green Valley was the Southeast Division champions and they won 2-1 in their playoff game yesterday as well versus Rancho.

In the Sunrise Region semifinal yesterday, the women’s basketball team found themselves in an action packed overtime game.
The game was a game of runs going both ways early on with Liberty trailing Canyon Springs 11-7 after the first quarter. The Lady Patriots were able to bounce back and take a 27-25 halftime lead though.
Then after the first three quarters the game was tied at 43 so close ending was in store. Throughout the fourth quarter the game was back and forth, but Liberty found themselves down three with 30 seconds to go.
Sydney Clark (10) made a layup to cut it to one, and then the Pioneers made one of two free throws to make it a two point lead. With the clock waning down, Alyx Stiff (11) was able to hit the game tying layup and send it to overtime.
Overtime was like the fourth quarter with Liberty jumping out to an eight point lead before letting Canyon Springs tie it up with 51 seconds to go. Alena Evans (12) then stepped up and made two free throws and then got a steal and made a layup and that is how the game would end, with a final score of 70-66 in favor of Liberty.
Evans led the Lady Patriots with 31 points, 13 rebounds and six assists while Stiff contributed ten points and four rebounds along with the shot the sent the game to overtime.
Tonight the Lady Patriots play for a third consecutive Sunrise Region Championship against Foothill (19-5) at Foothill at 5 PM. Come and support your Lady Patriots!

The women’s soccer team was in a win or go home situation as it was the last game of the year. Facing Foothill on senior night, the Lady Patriots needed a victory to make the playoffs again this year.
Liberty raced to a 1-0 halftime lead on a goal from Alexia Gonzalez (12). Then they got two more goals from Gonzalez again and then from sister Ari Gonzalez (9) respectively, to put them up 3-0, 52 minutes into the game.
Foothill then marched back with two goals to cut the lead down to one before they tied it up at three with two minutes left in the match.
Then immediately after the Foothill goal, Sunshine Soriano (10) scored on an assist from Alexia Gonzalez to put Liberty up 4-3 and that would be the final score.
This vaulted Liberty into a tie with Silverado and they took third place in the Southeast Division via tiebreakers while finishing with an 8-6-2 record overall.
Next up for the Lady Patriots is the Sunrise Region Quarterfinals in which they will play Las Vegas at Las Vegas on Tuesday. Las Vegas went 10-5-3 during the season and claimed the second seed from the Northeast Division.

In action yesterday, the Lady Patriot basketball team won their Sunrise Region Quarterfinal versus the Valley Vikings 59-35. Led by Alena Evans (12) who put a double-double (21 points and 10 steals), they advanced to the Sunrise Region Semifinals.
They will take on Canyon Springs (20-1) who the Northeast Division and breezed to a quarterfinal win as well against Green Valley 76-45. The semifinal will be Thursday at Foothill at about 6:20 PM.
In other sports news, it is senior night tonight for women’s soccer and a playoff bid will be on the line. They will be hosting Foothill in a must win to get in situation to return to the playoffs this season.
In their game at Foothill this season they fell 2-1 after being tied 0-0 at halftime. Lone senior Alexia Gonzalez (12) scored the only goal in that game. Gonzalez will be honored tonight on senior night.
